Phil Scott wants to build a new prison. It’s big business.
*Did you know that 33%-35% of people incarcerated in Vermont are awaiting trial? Additionally, The ACLU of Vermont notes that 65% of the total prison population are individuals who are awaiting trial or have already served their minimum sentence but remain past their minimum release date.
107 million dollars to keep people who really don’t need to be in Vermont prisons. With that money, we could get them housing, training, jobs, medical, legal and mental health services. $134,000 per inmate in Vermont!!!
